Skin Inc. posted an article in March titled, “Could Gum-chewing Cause Wrinkles; Shorten Filler Lifespan?”. Based on beauty blogs, and not research, the article stated that there seems to be a gum-wrinkle connection due to the repetitive motion of chewing gum. However, on the flip-side, research has discovered that chewing gum can decrease stress and increases alertness. Hmm… is gum the culprit or repetition? According to Joel Schlessinger, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon, “Repetition is the culprit.”

So, feel free to keep chewing gum to reduce stress… in moderation.

SIRTUIN – A Knight in Shining Armor

An easy way for one to remember the benefits of a Sirtuin is to picture a Knight in Shining Armor – bravely protecting the DNA of our cells from destruction of aging scavengers.

Sirtuins are protein enzymes that affect cellular metabolism which plays a vital role in the manifestations of aging. Research is ongoing in this area, but there has been successful approaches conducted towards finding methods that fuel sirtuins.
